Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of foot pain. The exact mechanism of plantar fasciitis is unknown but the latest research suggests that pain results from degeneration of the tissue in the sole of the foot rather than inflammation as previously thought.
Factors that can influence the progression of plantar fasciitis include :
* Incorrect foot mechanics
*Decreased ankle range of motion
* Improper or worn out shoes
*Weight bearing positions such as excessive standing or running
What can you do to help?
• Stretch the muscles of your lower leg and foot
• Roll your foot on an object to perform self-massage
• Discontinue activities that cause pain
• New footwear

• Diagnosing the problem
• Assess and treat contributing mechanisms elsewhere in body that could be influencing foot and leg mechanics
• Exercise prescription
• Perform physiotherapy massage and mobilisations for pain relief
• Advice on correct footwear
• Create a plan to return to previous activities and sport
